Osan Community Garden

Hello:

As the weather turns nice we would like to invite everyone to come out and

enjoy our community garden. It is located in between the rear of the

hospital and the School Age Program. We were able to obtain this by winning

the Newmans Own Grant for Osan's Parent Network (OPN) program. The garden

is very diverse and hosts sections for herbs, watermelons, beans, flowers,

and also plots for individuals to grow whatever they like. Space is limited

so please fill out the attached application and send it to

kimandtravis@msn.com or myself at Kristina.gasaway.ctr@osan.af.mil. Since

this was awarded to the Osan Parent Network we do ask for applications to

track the usage and also ensure we are able to give back to the OPN. Hope to

see you all out there enjoying this hidden Osan gem!

Secret Garden Cake

Makes one 9-by-13-inch layer cake

Old-Fashioned Vanilla Cake

10 cups Swiss Meringue Buttercream

One 11 1/2-ounce package milk chocolate morsels

40 chocolate wafer cookies

Two 2-ounce packages pretzel sticks, at least 4-inches long (about 100)

1 cup candy pebbles

Marzipan Flowers

1 teaspoon vegetable oil

Directions

1.Place cake on a clean work surface. Using a serrated knife, trim top to make level, and split cake horizontally to form 2 layers. Place a dab of buttercream in the center of a 9-by-13-inch cardboard rectangle. Center 1 cake layer on top. Using an offset spatula, frost top of cake layer with 5 cups buttercream for the filling; place remaining cake layer on top. Frost entire cake with remaining 5 cups buttercream. Chill until firm, about 30 minutes.

2.Meanwhile, melt chocolate morsels in a double-boiler or a medium heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water (do not let bowl touch water). Stir in vegetable oil until combined. Remove from heat. Dip pretzels into chocolate to coat, and transfer to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Let sit in a cool place until chocolate has set.

3.Using white glue, affix cardboard rectangle to a cutting board or piece of plywood covered with adhesive-backed paper, approximately 14-by-18 inches. Process chocolate cookies in a food processor until finely ground; you will need 2 cups of crumbs. Sprinkle top of chilled cake with crumbs. Place marzipan terracotta pot in center of cake. Sprinkle candy pebbles on top of cake to form a path. Arrange marzipan flowers and garden hose in clusters on either side of path.

4.Gently press pretzels into sides of cake, about 1/2-inch apart. Serve at room temperature.

Osan Community Garden

Hello: The area behind the hospital is our Osan Community Garden that was given

to us through a Newmans Own Grant specifically for the Osan Parent Network. We

are glad that the weather will be warming up here shortly and the garden will be

back in bloom. There is an application if you are interested in having a plot in

the garden and there are also lots of volunteer opportunities open within the

Osan Parent Network and the Community Garden. The Family Advocacy Office is the

POC for both groups and I can be reached at the above email or my work email at

kristina.gasaway.ctr@osan.af.mil.

With this being said PLEASE do not use this area as a dog walk. We have left the

gates open so the community can come and go as they desire. I am hoping this is

being used as a dog walk area because people were unsure of what is was designed

to be used for. Thank you all in advance and hope to hear from lots of people

soon!

Happy New Year!!

Shall I shamelessly promote my business on the OPN Blog?  Was a question I asked myself...  I run this blog, so I thought it may seem tacky.  But I asked my husband and he didn't think so...  =)  haha!

Anyway, I have just started up my photography business, and am sooo happy to finally be doing the one thing I've always wanted!  I am here at Osan, and will be soon moving on base into Jurisan tower.

I would LOVE to take your photos!  I need practice and to fill my portfolio... which is why I am charging significantly less than the usual.  My prices will go up starting April 1st.  Please take a look at my website~ http://www.cjphotog.com/   and also visit my Facebook page @ http://www.facebook.com/christianajphotography

Thank you!!

***Osan Trick or Treat Bash UPDATE***

I wanted to pass along some other information that is important

to know. We need your help and that is addressed in item #3 of this

email.

1. The Osan Trick or Treat Bash is scheduled for Thursday, 1530-1730

hrs. In some advertisements, it shows an end time of 9:30 pm.

2. We have a large turnout for the costume contest. Last year, we had

52 interested people but this year, it is approaching 100. We don't

want to take any opportunities away from anyone to compete so anyone

that comes to the Costume Contest at the O'Club will be able to enter.

Bottom line ... no need for further registrations. We will quickly

register you there at the club when you arrive. Our volunteers have a

good plan to adjust to the large amount of children that we are

expecting. As a reminder, the Costume Contest is scheduled for

1745-1845. Please make sure you show by 1745 for registration.

The first group to be judged will be our 10-12 year group, followed by

7-9, followed by 4-6, and then Infants to 3 which .... accounts for more

than half the entries.

3. Lastly, and more importantly, please talk to your friends and

neighbors and ask them if they have registered for the Osan Trick or

Treat Bash. There are two reasons we are asking people to register ...

1) we need an accurate count of children so we can communicate with our

38 offices/booths about the candy to purchase and 2) so we can provide

updates on this event as they become available. Because it is possible

we could eclipse 300 kids, we are expanding the walking area to

alleviate overcrowding to the best of our ability.

If you could, canvass your friends/neighbors and ask them if they have

emailed me. If not, please have them do that.

Again, more info to follow.
