Rainbow Jell-o Jigglers
(I found this recipe online: http://dobetter.wordpress.com/2008/03/18/rainbow-jello/) I picked up a 6oz box of blue, yellow and red jello plus a box of knox gelatin. To get these fabulous layers, mix the blue jello with an envelope of the knox gelatin. Pour in two cups of boiling water. Dissolve the gelatin. Add 1/2 cup of ice. Stir until thick. Remove any remaining ice cubes and any bubbles that may have formed. Pour into a 9×13 inch pan. Let set in the refrigerator. Repeat with the yellow jello and pour it over the set blue. Repeat with the red jello and pour it over the yellow. And there you have it, Rainbow Jello. I won’t go into the whole primary and secondary color thing, but these colors, when stacked upon each other, create other colors. There is not an orange or green layer. It just looks like it when the red and yellow layers touch and then yellow and blue layers touch. Pretty cool. |

***This even has been postponed/cancelled***
Dear Parents,
We hope you have had a wonderful summer!! We are really looking forward to seeing the girls after the long break!
Next Friday, 27 Aug, is our from 3-5pm. This is right after the Elementary School Meet and Greet, and the event will take place in Turtle Park on base. If you went to the Luau last year, it is the same location.
No preparation or work is required for the Daisy's as this is a recruiting event. Any girls last year who were not able to register for this next year, will be able to do so at this event! The older troops have put together some booths that will have different activities, so the girls should have a great time!
We hope all of the girls can come out and introduce themselves to the new scouts signing up! Please have the girls wear their vests/smocks if they like...it will give them a chance to show off all the patches and awards from last year!
We hope to see all of you there, and again, we are looking forward to getting started with the girls again!
See you Friday!

Remembering Elvis Presley 1935-1977
Today (August 16th) marks the 33rd anniversary of the "King's" death. May he rest in peace..
Elvis Aaron Presley, in the humblest of circumstances, was born to Vernon and Gladys Presley in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935. His twin brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn, leaving Elvis to grow up as an only child. He and his parents moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1948, and Elvis graduated from Humes High School there in 1953.
Elvis’ musical influences were the pop and country music of the time, the gospel music he heard in church and at the all-night gospel sings he frequently attended, and the black R&B he absorbed on historic Beale Street as a Memphis teenager. In 1954, he began his singing career with the legendary Sun Records label in Memphis. In late 1955, his recording contract was sold to RCA Victor. By 1956, he was an international sensation. With a sound and style that uniquely combined his diverse musical influences and blurred and challenged the social and racial barriers of the time, he ushered in a whole new era of American music and popular culture.
He starred in 33 successful films, made history with his television appearances and specials, and knew great acclaim through his many, often record-breaking, live concert performances on tour and in Las Vegas. Globally, he has sold over one billion records, more than any other artist. His American sales have earned him gold, platinum or multi-platinum awards for 150 different albums and singles, far more than any other artist. Among his many awards and accolades were 14 Grammy nominations (3 wins) from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, which he received at age 36, and his being named One of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation for 1970 by the United States Jaycees. Without any of the special privileges his celebrity status might have afforded him, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.
His talent, good looks, sensuality, charisma, and good humor endeared him to millions, as did the humility and human kindness he demonstrated throughout his life. Known the world over by his first name, he is regarded as one of the most important figures of twentieth century popular culture. Elvis died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977.

2/3 cup Butter or margarine
3 cups Graham cracker crumbs (reserve 1/4 cup)
Filling: 1 cup fresh Lime juice
1/4 cup Water
2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup Sugar
5 Eggs, slightly beaten
2 teasp. grated lime zest
1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine
2 pkgs (8oz. each) Cream cheese (room temp)
1/2 cup Heavy cream (chilled)
Whipped cream & lime slices for garnish
Prepare crust: Stir crumbs, sugar and melted margarine in bowl. Press over bottom of a 9" spring form pan and up sides.
Prepare filling: Combine lime juice and water in sauce pan, sprinkle gelatin over top. Let stand 5 mins to soften. Stir sugar, eggs and zest into pan. Beat chilled cream in small chilled bowl until stiff peaks form. Fold into lime mixture and pour into prepared crust. Cover and refrigerate until firm 3-4 hours.
Run thin knife around inside edge of pan to loosen sides, remove side of spring form pan. Garnish with whipped cream and lime slices around edge. Use pastry tip to pipe on whipped cream, and sprinkle on extra graham cracker crumbs. Store in refrigerator. *yield 16 servings
Note: Cut recipe in half and use a smaller pan for an 8 serving cheesecake

Civil Air Patrol develops youth through self-paced study of the art of leadership. Cadets learn how to lead through formal classroom instruction and hands-on experience. Through a graduated curriculum, cadets first learn to follow, then to lead small groups, and ultimately experience command and executive-level leadership, earning cadet grade and honors along the way. Topics include how to think critically, communicate effectively, make decisions, motivate and manage conflict. Self discipline and teamwork are emphasized. You must be at least 12 but not yet 19 to join as a cadet. Questions? Email: NHQ127@gmail.com

Homeschool Co-Op
Hey, I was looking to start an elementary homeschooling co-op (grades 1-3). My thoughts were to get a couple moms together to teach certain subject matter. Each Mom would have her own curriculum to teach our group of children. And if we get enough interest and you feel like you don't want to teach, you can do a special activity to augment the art, physical education or music side each week.
Any suggestion or interest please email,
Michelle Foster

Tae Kwon Do classes
Are you or your child interested in Tae Kwon Do or other martial arts classes? The Osan fitness center holds adult tae kwon do classes among other martial arts classes. I am currently a student of Grand Master Mun who is a 9th degree black belt. He has been teaching here at Osan for almost 40 years and actually taught Chuck Norris during his assignment here at Osan AB. His son, Master Mun, teaches children's classes (which you can sign up with through the Youth Center). They teach World Taekwondo Federation style.
You can find flyers posted in the fitness center about this or other martial arts classes.
