Volunteer Opportunities

(updated July 2010)


-Chapel Receptionist:  Volunteer needed each Thursday from 0800-1630 to assist with answering phone, taking messages, greeting visitors, and assisting with folding and stuffing bulletins.

-Troops for Trash (volunteer weekend opportunity):  Every second Saturday from 0930-1400.

-51 MDG:  Volunteer needed to work in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Outreach (ADAPT).  Flexible Hours. POC:  SSgt Carrington, 784-2149

-Thrift Shop:  Volunteers needed Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 0900-1400, and first Saturday of each month from 0900-1400.  Child Care costs may be reimbursed by the OOSC.  For more information please contact Mrs. Heather Sherman at thriftshopmgr@osanosc.com

-Osan Airman & Family Readiness Center is looking for volunteers to teach cooking classes on a monthly basis.  The A&FRC will provide all needed ingredients.  We are also in need of nolunteers to assist with outdoor activities on Saturdays.  If interested please contact Ms Tokhui Kim, Multi Cultural Program Manager at DSN 784-5440 or email tokhui.kim@osan.af.mil

-USO (weekday opportunity):  Volunteers needed twice a week for staffing USO snack area at AMC Terminal druing arrivals (approx 2-3 hrs Mondays and Wednesdays).  POC:  Ms. Lim, 784-3491,  011-440-9015

-USO (evening/weekend):  United Through Reading volunteer needed each Thurs 1500-1700;  Volunteer needed to produce flyers/PowerPoint slides to publicize USO events; Volunteers needed twice a week for answering phones and cleaning/restocking USO snack area; Volunteers needed to assist with childcare.  POC: Ms. Lim, 784-3491

-Post Office:  Volunteers needed Monday through Friday, 0630-1730 and Saturdays and Sundays from 0630-1400.  If interested, contact:  Mr. James Groff at 784-1189, and SrA Eddie Algarin at 784-9112

-PAC House Dining Facility:  Volunteers needed the 2nd Tuesday of every month to cook the monthly Mongolian Meal at the Pacific House.  10 volunteers needed.  POC:  MSgt Cargile, PAC House dinging facility manager at james.cargile@osan.af.mil

-McPhereson Community Center (evening/weekends):  Volunteer opportunities for ages 18 and over.  1. Conducting XBox gaming and sports tournaments on evenings and weekends.  2. Helping issue equipment to patrons and conducting hourly room occupancy counts.  3. Teaching music or dance classes.  4. Helping run special events like Family Bingo and the indoor Flea Market.  POC: Mrs. Ellen Smith  784-3123

-School Age Program:  Volunteers needed to lead special after school activities and clubs, such as guitar, cooking, crafts, and much more!  Additionally, volunteer tutors needed to assist youths during "Power Hour" (homework hour), from 1515-1615.  POC:  Theodore Morris  784-6390, Theodore.morris@osan.af.mil

-Child Development Center:  Classroom Assistants needed to help set-up Pre-School classroom for activities, crafts and decorating.  Volunteers will not be able to "care" for children or be left alone, but could read to them and help them with crafts.  POC:  Ms. Rhonda Tillery, 784-4966

-Osan English Tutor Program (run from May - Dec.  every other weekday or saturday afternoon):  Volunteers needed to teach English to 5th & 6th grade of Korean elementary school students/ 7th & 8th Grade of middle school students.  POC:  Mr. Pak,  Yong Hui ,  Yong.Pak2@osan.af.mil, 784-0845

-Girl Scouts of America:  Volunteers needed to help plan and put on events and activities, go on trips, or with a special skill (sewing, scrapbooking, photography, etc.) that they can teach the Girl Scouts to help earn badges.  POC:  SrA Chelsea Whitworth, osangirlscouts@gmail.com

*Those interested in volunteering should register at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, building 769.  Please call 784-5440.  The A&FRC and AF Aid Society can provide guidance on obtaining free childcare for registered base volunteers.  Note:  Free childcare is not available for Thrift Shop, private organizations, social functions, or dental "training" program volunteers.  Also, a criminal history background check is mandated for individuals in a position involving working with children under age of 18.  For updated information on volunteer opportunities go to http://www.osan.af.mil/
